The Reasoning
Every year, I think about dining at all of the restaurants along one street. When I lived in West Des Moines, Hubster and I did 8th Street, which was super easy.
Ingersoll is a bigger challenge.
In fact, that’s what I’m calling this: The Ingersoll Challenge.
How many of these Ingersoll eateries have you dined at? Can you get to them all before the end of the year?
I have only four more to go!
I love Ingersoll. It’s my favorite road in Des Moines. I argue that the food scene along Ingersoll is the best in Des Moines, with The Pocket of Delicious at 28th and Ingersoll. Two of our finest restaurants are on Ingersoll: Harbinger and Oak Park. One of our best burgers—if not the best burger—is on Ingersoll at Lachele’s. Just north of Ingersoll is where we saw Orchestrate solidify its profile in our community.
From Big Grove to Oak Park, that two-mile stretch is missing only one thing: ice cream. The old Bank of America is available. Somebody get on that, please.
Also, I miss QT being on Ingersoll so much.
The Scope
This guide includes only businesses on Ingersoll and on side streets. If you can see it from Ingersoll, I included it. It only includes brick-and-mortar eateries. As businesses come and go, I will update it.

The Methodology
My resources were Google Maps and The Avenues of Ingersoll and Grand website. And my own memory. I’m rather proud of myself for coming up with 21 on my own. But I have lived near Ingersoll for 80 percent of my life, so I’m cheating.
