Goodies (with Sad Update): Bread Dipping with AllSpice Culinarium and Big Sky Bread
Probably my favorite Des Moines combo!
4/29/2025 UPDATE: Since publishing this, I’ve learned that Big Sky Bread appears to be owned by Trump supporters. I’ve opted to leave this up because their product is still good. However, I no longer purchase Big Sky Bread. This is such a shame, but I firmly believe there’s a better, local Italian bread loaves out there. If you have suggestions, I’m open to suggestions!

One of my favorite lazy meals is dipping bread in olive oil. You can’t convince me that’s not a meal. If I went to Centro and the server said, “Our special tonight is a bread-dipping flight with our garlic focaccia and four varieties of olive oil,” I’d be like, “Yes, please. That. Only that.”
That’s the ideal scenario, but in a pinch, a lot of olive oils and breads suffice. I say that with serious reservations. The simpler and fresher the ingredients, the better. Mass-produced breads and olive oils fill you up, but local products make you feel loved.
My current favorites are Big Sky Bread’s Italian bread and AllSpice Culinarium’s rosemary olive oil.
